La Quinta Palms Realty History
My brother Jim and I have been coming to the Desert area since the 1960’s when our grandparents first attempted to teach us the game of golf. Growing up we worked together building homes, apartments, and commercial buildings in Newport Beach, El Monte, Lake Elsinore, Riverside, El Centro and La Quinta for our step father’s company. In the late 1970’s we were literally caught up in the “gold rush” and permanently moved to the Desert in 1981 where we started a precious metal mining operation. As they say, “the gold ran out but we stayed” and in 1982 we went to work with Marie Bellows at La Quinta Palms Realty selling something called REO’s (Real Estate Owned by banks and Savings and loans at that time). This is a term that is unfortunately all too well known today, but back then most Banks and Savings and Loans were relatively unfamiliar with the whole concept as foreclosures were very rare up until that time. This began our career of working with institutional clients as REO Agents. A few years later the economy improved, I obtained my Broker’s license, and Jim and I purchased the building and business known as La Quinta Palms Realty. We were one of only three real estate offices in the entire City at the time and we worked very hard to be a truly full service real estate company. That meant we sold houses, and lots, and land, and farms and we leased and rented houses and buildings and office space and we also managed rental houses and commercial buildings for our clients as well. It has been nearly 30 years since we first started working at La Quinta Palms Realty and along the way we have assembled a staff of well trained professionals that allow us to continue to maintain our high quality of service and still be a full service real estate company that can meet the needs of nearly any client. Some of our accomplishments that I am most proud of include our work with the City of La Quinta. Over the years we have assisted the City in the acquisition of the land upon which many of the City’s parks and buildings are located as well as working closely with their Redevelopment Agency to manage and develop several of their very low, low and moderate income housing programs/projects. Also, having started in this industry as REO Agents we have been fortunate to work with most of the major lending institutions (and quite a few of the smaller ones too!) and help design and implement many of the processes which guide the REO Industry today. In the mid 1990’s our office was selected as one of three offices nationwide to create and participate in the Department of Veteran Affairs Pilot REO Program. But as we all know, in real estate “you are only as good as your last deal”! And to that end I remember something that was told to my brother and me at the closing of one of our very first transactions. We were thanked profusely by our client and told that we were the friendliest and most professional real estate agents that he had ever worked with. And that set the bar for who we wanted to be in this business… the friendliest and most professional agents in the business. “Your Friendly Professionals” is more than just our slogan; it is our goal to meet with everyone we do business with. We hope someday to have the opportunity to show you!
